Be: Coffee + Food + Stuff

for plant lovers and the artsy types

Located just east of 2nd street and Roosevelt, Be: Coffee + Food + Stuff takes over a space inside Monorchid gallery, venue and coworking space that used to house Songbird Coffee, which relocated to a little freestanding house on Third Street.

In addition to coffee and tea drinks, Be also serves a menu of breakfast and lunch items. My personal favorite is the grilled cheese. Besides these options, the shop offers assorted pastries.

They bake their giant cookies in house and they are the best I've had in the downtown Phoenix area. If you are lucky enough to get your hands on an M&M chocolate chip one, you won’t regret it. This ooey gooey cookie is sure to leave you satisfied.

While the selections for the shop’s pour over and drip rotate, Be sources its espresso and cold brew from Infusion Coffee and Tea in Tempe.

The space features art from well-known local artist and muralist JB Snyder. His work spruces up the plain white walls of the area.

A giant window allows light to fill the space, keeping it well-lit all day. Albeit small, Be feels very spacious.

A wooden community table with outlets for all your tech needs sits in the center of the space. The table features pretty flower bouquets from 1209 Creative that are avaibale for purchase.

Toward the front of Be is a comfy mustard yellow couch and two sophisticated black lounge chairs, with a wooden coffee table in between. Next to the chairs sits a side table that features Arizona fun fact books. Test your knowledge on this Grand Canyon state with friends when you stop by.

More intimate tables are placed down the hall with more art.

One unique feature of this coffee shop is that Be shares its space with The Bosque, a novelty plant shop, and, as previously mentioned, Monorchid gallery. This means you can browse cool and unusual plants and alternating art exhibitions while you sip your drink of choice.

The prime time to check this spot out is when it’s hopping on First Friday, but if crowds aren't your thing, an alternative would be visiting it in the late afternoon on the weekend, when it’s not so busy.
